Investing in the next generation is at the heart of Lake Country Medical Group. Our Student Internship Program focuses on teaching and equipping future medical providers. Students selected in this competitive program will be hands-on involvement in clinical responsibilities and gain invaluable medical knowledge. Several students are chosen to train under the direct mentorship of Nicolas Chronos MD, FRCP, FACC, FESC, a cardiology and internal medicine physician. Dr. Chronos challenges students both intellectually and personally to invest in their growth and to propel them into the medical field. Our students report that this experience has been pivotal to their professional development. Several interns have been offered jobs at our practice while they work on gaining hands-on clinical experience for their applications.
Spring intern shifts will be 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. available Tuesday-Friday in one or two day shifts. Please note, this is an unpaid internship. We are credentialed to provide class credit at both UGA and GCSU.
Our practice is located between Athens and Milledgeville, making it especially convenient for UGA and GCSU students.
Responsibilities
LCMG Interns will work as Medical Scribes. As a scribe you will be able to first hand witness the unique relationship between a Patient and Provider. You will learn your way around an Electronic Medical Record and become proficient in medical terminology. We will also teach you clinical skills such as how to take a manual blood pressure, perform ECGs, and more. Lastly, we work conduct hands on skills labs such as animal heart dissections and/or suture instruction. You will be held to high standards of professionalism and eagerness to learn.

Further Learning Opportunities
All interns are welcome opportunities to shadow Physicians, Nurse Practitioners, Physician Assistants, and Imaging Specialists. As a multidisciplinary clinic, we work with providers specializing in Cardiology, Internal Medicine, Gynecology, Geriatrics, and Electrophysiology. We have MDs, NPs, PAs, and RNs all working within or practice. Our providers cherish teaching students. While interning at LCMG, you will become familiar with many topics related to cardiology and internal medicine. You will learn about medications, imaging, and treatment for a number of medical conditions.
Research
As a site for multiple research studies, Lake Country Medical Group gives interns the opportunity to get involved in research that interests them. Students in previous years have even been able to conduct their own research accessing our patient population. Please note the availability of research opportunities vary each semester depending on the status of ongoing studies or student interest. If you are interested in pursing medical research, please let us know!

A Letter from the Program Director
As someone that has been with the program since its establishment in 2020, it is truly exciting to be opening applications for our 8th class of interns. This internship is a unique opportunity that we tailor to ensure every student walks away with a newfound knowledge of medicine and passion for the field. As a Pre-PA individual myself, Dr. Chronos has gone above and beyond to help prepare and encourage me for my future career. I have had numerous eye opening experiences through my employment with the clinic that have solidified my passion for pursuing higher education as a medical provider. I am confident that you will walk away from this internship feeling fulfilled with knowledge of what being a medical provider will truly be like.
The internship largely consisted of Pre-Health students from UGA. However, we have had several students from GCSU, as well as Georgia Tech and Virginia Tech. I would like to encourage everyone to apply and reach out to me if you have any questions about the program or the application process!
Best,
Lauren Dunmire, Internship Program Director
Testimonials
“Throughout my time at Lake Country Medical Group, I’ve been able to experience medicine in real time by actively participating in the delivery of modern healthcare. Regardless of the capacity in which I was working at LCMG, some of the best moments have come during routine encounters with patients. Having the opportunity to develop genuine relationships with those who walk through our doors has been one of the most rewarding and humbling experiences I’ve had to date. While I’ve learned more than I could’ve imagined about how diseases are diagnosed, treated, and managed, the most important skill I’ve developed is being able to see the person behind each patient I have the privilege of interacting with. After spending more than a year at LCMG, I believe I have developed a foundation of clinical and professional experiences that I will continue to draw on for years to come!” – Jake M. (Previous Scribe & Medical Assistant) Pre-Med UGA Undergrad, Accepted to Weill Cornell Medical College
“I learned more from my time at LCMG than I did in all of my undergraduate schooling. I feel so much more prepared and confident to encounter clinical scenarios. I definitely have a strong foundation for knowledge moving into graduate school because of my internship experience.” -Hannah W. (Previous Scribe & Clinical Assistant) Pre-PA UGA Undergrad, Accepted to Mercer University PA Program
“I have loved getting a glimpse of the everyday work as a doctor through working closely with Dr. Chronos. I have not only gotten to observe, but I have also gotten hands-on experience scribing as well as interacting with patients and performing EKG’s. I know this will be valuable to my professional career in the future.” -Courtney L. (Previous Medical Scribe) Pre-PA, UGA Undergrad
